Overview
We might be calling it a retreat, but it's so much more than that. This high-altitude running adventure is crafted for those who train with purpose, crave wild terrain, and thrive in strong company. Designed in collaboration with Runologie, this is Colorado at its most iconic: dramatic landscapes, big elevation, and one unforgettable trail day at the heart of it all.
Itinerary
No two days are the same. Each one is built around movement, recovery, and connection, shaped by the rhythm of the trail and the energy of the crew.

You'll Be Staying Here
Simple Mountain Retreat
This retreat blends rustic comfort in the forest with small-town charm in the mountains, creating the perfect balance of connection, adventure, and ease.
We begin our retreat tucked along the Fryingpan River and surrounded by forest.
It’s quiet, remote, and intentionally simple; the kind of place that helps you shift gears and get grounded before the climb.
Mornings are cool, the air is clear, and everything slows down.
Family-Run Inn
On Day 3, we arrive at an inn in Crested Butte that shares our commitment to sustainability.
Powered by 100% renewable energy and partnered with organizations like Clean the World, it’s a stay you can feel good about.
After the run, unwind in the hot tub, sip locally roasted coffee, and settle into the ease of a place that takes care of both its guests and its surroundings.
The Experience
Best of Colorado
Two nights in each of our handpicked Colorado locations means more time to explore, less time on the road, and a deeper feel for each place.
White River National Forest
After landing at Vail Airport, we’ll kick off our Colorado experience with a beautiful drive just under two hours into the mountains and along the Frying Pan River. It feels remote, peaceful, and deeply connected to the landscape.
Altitude Starts Here
We spend the first two nights at 8,000 feet, allowing our bodies to physiologically adapt to altitude.
Settle In
Access to a cold plunge (as well as a cold river), sauna, and hot tub supports circulation, promotes oxygen delivery, and helps reduce the strain of elevation change on the body.
Meals
Throughout our journey, we’ll enjoy a mix of chef-prepared meals and local dining experiences that celebrate the best of local flavors. Examples of dishes include: -Quinoa bowls with chickpeas, roasted veggies, and tahini -Lemon-herb baked chicken with brown rice and sautéed greens -Stuffed bell peppers with black beans and avocado -Grilled chicken with brown rice and veggies -Lentil and sweet potato stew with greens -Turkey meatballs with tomato sauce and spaghetti squash -Shakshuka (eggs poached in spiced tomato sauce) -Hand-tossed pizza
Pre-Run
Leading up to the run, we’ll focus on mobility, activation, and breath control to help our bodies adapt to altitude and stay efficient on the trail. These sessions are designed to loosen up tight muscles, fire up the right movement patterns, and get us dialed in for a strong day in the mountains.
Iconic Trail Run
Run beneath the Maroon Bells, two of Colorado’s most photographed peaks, and through one of the most scenic alpine valleys in the Rockies. No loops, no repeats. This is a full alpine crossing from Aspen to Crested Butte on a trail that earns its legendary status.
Expert Support
Climbing from 9,500 to 12,500 feet, this route challenges your endurance and focus, but you won’t do it alone. With experienced pacers leading steady groups, you’ll move with purpose, take in sweeping alpine views, and push through the climb with solid support at your side.
Heavy Legs, Light Spirit
The trail will push you, maybe even surprise you. But by the time you drop into Crested Butte, you’ll feel stronger, clearer, and more connected-to yourself, to the terrain, and to the people beside you.
Post-Run
After the run, we’ll come together for a relaxed, celebratory dinner; the kind that feels earned. It’s a moment to refuel, reflect, and reconnect with the crew after a day that asked a lot and gave even more. The evening is yours to unwind: take a stroll through town, soak in the hot tub, or simply enjoy the quiet satisfaction that follows a big effort.
Whitewater Rafting
On the morning of Day 4, we take an exhilarating rafting trip through Class III+ rapids on the Upper Taylor (2 hours). This is an active, team-oriented paddle; fast, fun, and full of cold mountain water.
Crested Butte
In the afternoon, we’ll settle into the easy rhythm of Crested Butte-cold streams, mountain air, and a town full of charm. Cast a line in the Slate River, wander Elk Avenue, or simply take in the views. Imagine a welcoming town where the character runs deep. It’s unpretentious, full of charm, and exactly what you need after a long run. Enjoy Crested Butte, your way.
Digital Detox
This is your chance to step back from the noise. Out here, away pressure and constant buzz from your phone, there’s space to reconnect: with yourself, with others, and with the environment around you. Even short breaks from our devices have been shown to improve sleep, reduce anxiety, support healthier habits, and increase focus. There’s no right way to unplug. You choose what feels useful based on where you are and what you need.
Balance
Our carefully curated itineary leaves space for adventure, connection, relaxation and exploring.
Epic Payoff
This trip delivers. Cool air. Quiet mornings. Big effort. Bigger views. It’s a break from the routine; a full-body reset, grounded in movement, place, and people. The trail is just one part of it. What you carry home lasts longer. It’s worth it.

FAQs
Let's talk about the trail.
This is not a beginner trail; it’s technical, high-elevation, and remote. Plan to go slower than you would at sea level.
Expect steep climbs and descents; the route gains over 2,500 ft of elevation in some stretches.
Altitude makes even small climbs feel harder. Hydration and fueling are critical.
The footing is varied: packed dirt, rocky switchbacks, creek crossings, and occasional loose scree.
Water is available from streams (bring a Steripen or purification tabs) or plan for at least 3 liters of water capacity.
Much more trail info will be coming your way before the trip!
What is the cancellation policy?
Deposits are refundable for 7 days.
Cancel 45-90 days prior to the retreat start date and receive a 25% refund, less the deposit.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds for cancellations that occur 45 or fewer days before the retreat start date.
However, we CAN apply any amount paid toward a future Runologie retreat!
What is the payment policy?
A 15% deposit is required to reserve your spot on the retreat.
The remaining balance can be paid in installments on July 4, July 18 and August 1.
Please reach out if you'd like to chat about a payment plan that might work better for you.
Can my dietary needs be accommodated?
Yes! There are options for vegetarians, pescatarians, omnivores and carnivores alike.
Gluten-free diets can be accommodated as well.
Is there WIFI?
Yes. While it’s nice to unplug from the outside world, many of us have lives at home that require some communication.
We get it. There is WIFI in the main lodge at the first location and in the hotel in Crested Butte.
Do you recommend travel insurance?
As experienced travelers who’ve learned to expect the unexpected, we require travel insurance.
You'll receive our recommendations after signing up (or ask in advance!).
What will the weather be like?
Summer in the Colorado high country means crisp mornings, sunny skies, and the occasional afternoon thunderstorm.
In both Meredith (the first location) and Crested Butte, daytime highs hover in the low to mid-70s °F, with cool nights dipping into the 40's.
Expect dry mountain air, brilliant sunshine, and fast-changing conditions (layers are key).
Mornings are typically clear and ideal for time on the trail, while afternoons often bring passing storms, especially in July and August.
