Overview

Along Jamaica’s quiet south coast, turquoise waters meet black and golden sand beaches, fishing boats rest along the shore, and the hills of St. Elizabeth rise inland through farmland known as the island’s breadbasket. This retreat takes place in the laid-back village of Treasure Beach, where life moves to the rhythm of the sea and community connections shape everyday life. The village has also become something of an artistic enclave, drawing musicians, writers, and creative spirits inspired by the landscape and the slower pace of life. During our time together, we will experience the culture and flavors of Jamaica through the people who call this place home. Rather than simply passing through, we’ll spend time getting to know the fishermen, farmers, cooks, and storytellers who make this community what it is. We’ll share meals and conversations across the south coast, including dinner with sweeping ocean views at Lover’s Leap, while learning about culinary traditions rooted in Jamaica’s Afro-Caribbean heritage. We’ll visit a local farm in St. Elizabeth, often called Jamaica’s 'breadbasket', to learn about the crops and farming traditions that sustain the island. Together we’ll take a hands-on cooking class using local ingredients, explore the coastline by boat with local captains, kayak across calm Caribbean waters to Pelican Bar, and gather around a beach bonfire with fishermen from the village. A storytelling evening will offer a deeper look into Jamaican history, music, and everyday life along the south coast, with time throughout the retreat to relax, swim, and settle into the easy rhythm of the Caribbean.
